As we all know, diecast models have paint troubles.
Even the expensive models from CMC and GMP has this problems.
I had the same with my SWB of CMC and decided to repaint it.

Image

Because I am only collecting Ferrari models in red the choice of the colour was not difficult. ;)
I wanted to build my SWB like this:

Well, I have done a lot of HW's, but a CMC is something else to do.

After priming we going to start with the red colour. :)

When the red paint has dried, we gave everything a few clear coats.

I let this all dry for a few weeks and then we are going to polish everything.
In meanwhile I repainted the interior from blue to black, because this is nicer to the red outside.

Polishing time:

Then it is time to put everything back together and that's not easy with a CMC.
The doors and the hood etc. were not fitting anymore because of the thick layers of paint I used.
Therefore I glued everything on its place, so I have no opening parts anymore.
But I don't care, I am not playing with my models, they stay in there vitrine boxes for beauty! :)

Would I do another CMC in the future?
I don't think so, it's not easy! ;)

Thanks for watching!

John

Thank you Thierry. :)

Well, I had two options, buy a new (red) one and try to sell the other one.
To sell a model with bad paint without a box is not easy.
Or I could repaint my own model.
So, as you maybe know, we Dutch are a very saving people, I choose the last option. ;)

And my model is a little bit different to the original CMC.
Because this a LM-model in red and I added white metal (polished) mirrors and leather straps to the model.
It's not much, but still different! ;)

Thank you all guys, you are all kind to my work.
This was my first CMC I dismantled and I can tell you, it's not easy.
To put it together again is another story and I think that I will not do it again.

@Chris06: I am always work slowly and pay attention for what I am doing.
When you work like that, you don't make so many mistakes. ;)

Wow GTO62

Discovering this topic again;

Great great job you did on this model; Very beautiful and very unique. Originally I was just about to ask you why did you proceed that way, knowing that there is a red Ferrari 250GT Competizione in the CMC range.

You model speaks for itself, I feel no need to ask anymore, it's a real gem you must be proud of.

Very beautiful and a magnificent look alike to the real car you wanted to depict.

Congratulations.

Eric B.
